‘Hit them where it hurts’: Americans boycott corporations to protest anti-DEI policies

Hit 'em where it hurts

On Friday, Americans across the country are participating in an economic boycott for 24 hours.

Organized by the People’s Union USA, a nonpartisan, grassroots organization, the boycott quickly picked up steam across social media, with thousands of users sharing posts with related hashtags. Participants are asked not to spend any money, and if they need to, it is recommended that they shop at a local, small business and pay in cash.

“February 28 is a symbolic start to economic resistance, a day where we show corporations and politicians that we control the economy,” reads the organization’s website. “The date itself is not tied to any historical event, it is the beginning of something bigger.”

Spurred by anger about companies rolling back their diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts, in response to large-scale government cuts by Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s so-called “department of government efficiency” (Doge), some consumers are attempting to show their discontent with their wallets.

AOC Asks DOJ If She’s Under Investigation For Informing People Of Their Rights

AOCRep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) sent a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi asking if she is under federal investigation for informing people of their rights on Thursday. The congresswoman released the letter publicly on Friday.

Ocasio-Cortez’s letter follows public statements by White House border czar Tom Homan that the congresswoman should be investigated for hosting an online “know your rights” seminar to inform the public of their rights when confronted by immigration officers.

“I sent an email today to the deputy attorney general,” Homan said on Fox News on Feb. 13. “At what level is that impediment? Is that impediment? I’m not an attorney; I’m not a prosecutor. Is that impediment? Is that impeding our law enforcement efforts? If so, what are we gonna do about it? Is she crossing the line? So, I’m working with the Department of Justice and finding out. Where is that line that they cross? So, maybe AOC’s gonna be in trouble now.”

It is not known whether Homan actually sent an email to the Justice Department or, if he did, what he asked in it.

DOJ spokesperson resigns, citing ‘toxic work environment’

Joshu StueveJoshua Stueve, a top spokesperson for the Department of Justice (DOJ), has resigned, citing a “toxic work environment” in his letter to leadership.

“Simply put, I cannot continue to serve in such a hostile and toxic work environment, one where leadership at the highest levels makes clear we are not welcomed or valued, much less trusted to do our jobs,” wrote Stueve, who is not a political appointee and has served in administrations run by both parties.

Stueve’s resignation is the latest in federal resignations and firings since the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) began examining various agencies to cut spending.

DOGE, the brainchild of Elon Musk, has won unprecedented access to internal systems of the federal government since Jan. 20. It has worked to dismantle parts of the government while pushing federal workers to resign.

Trump wants confiscated boxes back As Trump headed to Mar-a-Lago in Florida on Friday night, boxes were spotted being loaded onto the plane.

The White House said in a statement they were the boxes seized from his Florida resort in 2022 by the FBI.

"The FBl is giving the President his property back that was taken during the unlawful and illegal raids. We are taking possession of the boxes today and loading them onto Air Force One," said Steven Cheung, White House communications director.

The FBI executed a search warrant for potentially classified material at Mar-a-Lago in August 2022, coming away with 20 boxes. The New York Times reported at the time that more than 300 classified documents kept at the resort were recovered by the government.

English will be official languagePresident Donald Trump is expected to sign an executive order designating English as the official language of the United States, according to the White House.

The executive order will rescind a mandate from former President Bill Clinton that required the government and organizations that received federal funding to provide language assistance to non-English speakers.

Zelenskyy declines to apologize to Trump after heated Oval Office meeting

Zelensky refuses to kneelHours after his heated exchange with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office which scuttled a planned economic partnership, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declined in a Fox News interview to apologize to Trump.

The testy exchange began with Vice President JD Vance praising Trump for negotiating directly with Russia over ending the war that began with Russia's 2022 invasion and occupation of Ukraine. Zelenskyy argued that Russia's prior actions have shown it to be an untrustworthy diplomatic partner, to which Vance responded that the Ukrainian president was being "disrespectful" to Trump.

In an interview with Bret Baier on Fox News Channel's Special Report, Zelenskyy at first sidestepped the question of whether he owed Trump an apology.

Protesters throng Iowa capitol to decry bill to roll back trans protections

Iowa protest for trans rights

Amid a heavy police presence and hundreds of vocal protesters, Iowa lawmakers on Thursday considered an unprecedented bill that would strip the state civil rights code of protections based on gender identity, a move opponents say could expose transgender people to discrimination in numerous areas of life.

Both the house and senate were expected to vote on the legislation on Thursday, the same day the Georgia house backed away from removing gender protections from the state’s hate crimes law, which was passed in 2020 after the death of Ahmaud Arbery.
