New photo shows UFO hovering over Canada before it was shot down by US fighter jet

UFO flying over CanadaA newly released image showing the UFO that was shot down by a US fighter jet over Canada in 2023 has added more questions and uncertainty to the object floating over the Yukon.

The grainy, blurry image captured the “cylindrical” “suspected balloon” 40,000 feet above the Great White North in February 2023 days before it was taken out, according to CTVNews, which obtained the image through an information request with Canada’s Department of National Defence.

A US F-22 shot the object, which was first tracked flying over Alaska eight days earlier, out of the sky on Feb. 11, 2023.

Officials in the US and Canada began tracking the UFO again when it crossed into Canadian airspace, and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau gave the order to shoot it down just after 4:50 p.m.

One killed after bus hijacked at gunpoint in Los Angeles, police chase: Reports

LA hijacking

One person was killed after a Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus was hijacked and then chased by the police as the driver was held on gun point in Los Angeles early Wednesday morning, KABC and KTLA5 reported.

Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department responded to a "Call 911" sign flashing on a Line 81 bus around 12:45 a.m. in South Los Angeles, KTLA5 reported, citing a spokesperson, adding the bus driver had activated the emergency sign after a suspect pulled out a gun allegedly during a dispute. KABC reported that authorities described the incident as a "kidnapping situation."

While several passengers were able to exit the bus before things took a turn for the worse, at least two others were still on board when the bus driver was reportedly forced to take off with the bus as the suspect held a gun to his head, as per KTLA5.

Amid Israel-Hezbollah strikes, Lebanon says only US can stop fighting

Lebanon deaths increaseAn Israeli airstrike on Beirut killed a senior Hezbollah commander on Tuesday as cross-border rocket attacks by both sides increased fears of a full-fledged war in the Middle East and Lebanon said only Washington could help end the fighting.

Hezbollah early on Wednesday confirmed senior commander Ibrahim Qubaisi was killed by Israeli airstrikes on Tuesday on the Lebanese capital as Israel announced earlier. Israel said Qubaisi headed the group's missile and rocket force.
Israel's offensive since Monday morning has killed 569 people, including 50 children, and wounded 1,835 in Lebanon, Health Minister Firass Abiad told Al Jazeera Mubasher TV.
The new offensive against Hezbollah has stoked fears that nearly a year of conflict between Israel and the militant Palestinian group Hamas in Gaza is escalating and could destabilise the Middle East. Britain urged its nationals to leave Lebanon and said it was moving 700 troops to Cyprus to help its citizens evacuate.

Ukraine war briefing: Trump expected to snub Zelenskyy as Biden backs Kyiv

Tump to Zelenskyy
  • An official on Trump’s campaign said the Republican nominee will not meet this week with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy while he is in the US. No meeting has been scheduled between the two, the official told the Associated Press, despite a statement from Ukrainian officials last week that said Zelenskyy had planned to see the former president.

  • Donald Trump said the US needs to “get out” of the war in Ukraine and that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris had no plan to do so. “Biden and Kamala got us into this war in Ukraine, and now they can’t get us out,” Trump said in a speech in Georgia. The US does not have troops in Ukraine but has given military and humanitarian assistance. Speaking in Savannah, Trump raised two historical conflicts to suggest Moscow would not lose. “What happens if they win? That’s what they do, is they fight wars. As somebody told me the other day, they beat Hitler, they beat Napoleon. That’s what they do. They fight. And it’s not pleasant.”

Missouri executes Marcellus Williams despite prosecutors’ push to overturn conviction

Marcellus Williams

Missouri executed a man on death row on Tuesday, despite objections from prosecutors who sought to have his conviction overturned and have supported his claims of innocence.

Marcellus “Khaliifah” Williams, 55, was killed by lethal injection, ending a legal battle that has sparked widespread outrage as the office that originally tried the case suggested he was wrongfully convicted.

In an extraordinary move condemned by civil rights advocates and lawmakers across the US, Missouri’s Republican attorney general, Andrew Bailey, pushed forward with the execution against the wishes of the St Louis county prosecuting attorney’s office.

Williams was convicted of the 1998 killing of Lisha Gayle, a social worker and former St Louis Post-Dispatch reporter. He was accused of breaking into Gayle’s home, stabbing her to death and stealing several of her belongings.

TVNL Comment: This is a terrible miscarriage of justice.  Even the prosecuting attorneys called for Williams' acquittal.  How tragic.

Special counsel can file oversized motion in Trump election-interference case

Special counsel to file oversized motion

Special counsel Jack Smith can file an oversized, 180-page motion on presidential immunity in Donald Trump’s Washington DC federal court election interference case, a judge ruled Tuesday.

Judge Tanya S Chutkan’s decision stems from prosecutors’ 21 September request to exceed the typical 45-page limit for opening motions and oppositions. Smith’s motion must be filed by Thursday and will include both legal arguments and evidence and could provide additional insight into Trump’s efforts to throw out election results, though it is unclear when the public might be able to see the material given that it will initially be filed under seal.

Trump faces four felony counts over his effort to subvert the 2020 election, though a July US supreme court ruling on presidential immunity threw the case into near disarray.

US public schools banned 10,000 books in most recent academic year

Banned books in USA

More than 10,000 books were banned in US public schools from 2023 to 2024, according to a report, marking a stark increase over the year before as Republican-led states pass new censorship laws.

The survey from PEN America suggested that bans of books nearly tripled nationwide, from 3,362 the previous year.

At least 13 titles were banned for the first time, including Alex Haley’s Roots: The Saga of an American Family, which describes the journey of an enslaved person from Africa to the US, and James Baldwin’s Go Tell It on the Mountain, the acclaimed semi-autographical work set in Harlem, New York.

PEN America, a non-profit organization dedicated to freedom of expression, said that approximately 8,000 instances of book bans took place in Florida and Iowa, as both states enforced sweeping laws targeting classroom material.
