Nasa astronaut hospitalized after return from International Space Station

NASA aastronaut hospitalized after return

A Nasa astronaut who just returned from the International Space Station has been hospitalized for an unspecified medical condition but remains stable, according to the US space agency.

The four-member Crew-8 mission splashed down off the coast of Florida early on Friday after nearly eight months aboard the orbital laboratory.

On its way back to Earth, the SpaceX Dragon executed a normal re-entry and splashdown, and recovery of the crew and spacecraft was without incident, Nasa said in a blog post.

But during routine medical assessments on the recovery ship, an “additional evaluation of the crew members was requested out of an abundance of caution”, it added, without elaborating.

NASA spacecraft is on its way to Jupiter's Europa moon

NASA spacecraft heds to Jupiter

A spacecraft that will study one of Jupiter’s moons launched Monday on a journey of more than six years to discover if the moon has the ability to support life.

The solar-powered spacecraft Europa Clipper ascended above clear skies through Earth’s atmosphere on a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

It is expected to reach Jupiter in April 2030 to study Europa, the icy-surfaced moon, which is roughly the size of Earth’s moon and thought to have “ingredients for life,” such as water, NASA says.

"Europa could have all the ingredients for life as we know it," NASA Associate Administrator Jim Free said on a media call on Sunday. "Water, organics, chemical energy and stability. What we discover at Europa will have profound implications for the study of astrobiology and how we view our place in the universe."

Severe solar storm may stress power grids as U.S. deals with major hurricanes

Solar stormA severe solar storm is headed to Earth that could stress power grids even more as the U.S. deals with major back-to-back hurricanes, space weather forecasters said Wednesday.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration issued a severe geomagnetic storm watch for Thursday into Friday after an outburst from the sun was detected earlier this week. Such a storm could temporarily disrupt power and radio signals.

NOAA has notified operators of power plants and orbiting spacecraft to take precautions. It also alerted the Federal Emergency Management Agency about possible power disruptions, as the organization copes with the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Helene and gears up for Hurricane Milton barreling across the Gulf of Mexico toward Florida.

A jellyfish with a superpower — it can fuse with another and become one

Jellyfish with super power

A little more than a year ago, while biologist Kei Jokura was in Woods Hole, Mass., he routinely walked down to the water, scanning for comb jellies.

“They look like a jellyfish,” he says, “but they’re completely different.” It’s a blob the size of a silver dollar with little hairs that ripple along the edges of its mostly see-through body. Jokura says it’s possible that the first nervous system to ever evolve on Earth was inside an ancient comb jelly — a distant ancestor of the ones he was scooping out of the water.

Are UFOs real? Historical markers say yes

UFO's real

Pascagoula, Miss., is known for building Navy ships, but city officials say it's actually famous for two other things.

First, it’s the birthplace of Jimmy Buffett. The city put up a historical marker outside his childhood home.

And then there’s the second thing: space aliens. The city put up a marker for them too.

“It was the evening of October 11, 1973 when two local shipyard workers went fishing,” the marker says, at the edge of the Pascagoula River.

SpaceX launched its mission tasked with bringing back two Boeing Starliner astronauts

Space XSpaceX launched its mission tasked with bringing back two Boeing Starliner astronauts from the International Space Station (ISS) next February on Saturday.

SpaceX Dragon spacecraft lifted off from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida at 1:17 p.m., according to NASA. It will take the Crew-9 mission 28.5 hours to dock at the ISS.

SpaceX’s Crew Dragon left Earth with two empty seats for astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, who have been docked at the ISS since June. The pair was the first to perform Boeing’s first crewed mission to space.

Initially, their planned lift-off had some bumps in the road. There were multiple delayed attempts because of helium leaks and thruster failures. Finally, they took off to the space station on June 5. They were scheduled to be on ISS for just over a week, but their stay was prolonged for multiple months.

New photo shows UFO hovering over Canada before it was shot down by US fighter jet

UFO flying over CanadaA newly released image showing the UFO that was shot down by a US fighter jet over Canada in 2023 has added more questions and uncertainty to the object floating over the Yukon.

The grainy, blurry image captured the “cylindrical” “suspected balloon” 40,000 feet above the Great White North in February 2023 days before it was taken out, according to CTVNews, which obtained the image through an information request with Canada’s Department of National Defence.

A US F-22 shot the object, which was first tracked flying over Alaska eight days earlier, out of the sky on Feb. 11, 2023.

Officials in the US and Canada began tracking the UFO again when it crossed into Canadian airspace, and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau gave the order to shoot it down just after 4:50 p.m.
