Israeli strikes on Gaza kill 32, mostly women and children

Israelis kill 32 in Gaza

Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip killed at least 32 people, including over a dozen women and children, local health officials said Sunday, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu headed to the United States to meet with President Donald Trump about the war.

Israel last month ended its ceasefire with Hamas and has seized territory to pressure the militant group to accept a new deal for a truce and release of remaining hostages. It has blocked the import of food, fuel and other supplies for over a month to the coastal territory heavily reliant on outside assistance.

Israel’s military late Sunday ordered Palestinians to evacuate several neighborhoods in central Gaza’s Deir al-Balah shortly after abrout 10 projectiles were fired from Gaza — the largest barrage from the territory since Israel resumed the war.

TVNL Comment:  Among the dead were journalist Islam Meqdad, and her 6 year old son.

Video shows killing of medicsIsrael's army has admitted its soldiers made mistakes over the killing of 15 emergency workers in southern Gaza on 23 March.

The convoy of Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) ambulances, a UN car and a fire truck from Gaza's Civil Defence came under fire near Rafah.

Israel originally claimed troops opened fire because the convoy approached "suspiciously" in darkness without headlights or flashing lights. It said movement of the vehicles had not been previously co-ordinated or agreed with the army.

  • Zelenskyy criticises ‘weak’ US reaction to deadly Russian strike on his hometown

Zelemsky upset by poor US response to Russian attack
    • The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has expressed disappointment in the US embassy’s response to a Russian missile strike that killed 18 people, including nine children, in Zelenskyy’s hometown of Kryvyi Rih. Zelenskyy, who has been cautious about openly criticising Washington since an uneasy White House meeting with Donald Trump in February, wrote on X that several embassies in Kyiv had condemned Friday’s attack and singled out Russia for carrying it out.

    • Zelenskyy noted that the message from the US embassy made no reference to Russia in condemning the attack. “Unfortunately, the response from the U.S. Embassy is surprisingly disappointing – such a strong country, such a strong people, and yet such a weak reaction,” Zelenskyy wrote in English. “They are afraid to even say the word ‘Russian’ when speaking about the missile that murdered children.”

    • The US ambassador to Ukraine, Bridget Brink, wrote about the strike in a post on X: “Horrified that tonight a ballistic missile struck near a playground and restaurant in Kryvyi Rih. More than 50 people injured and 16 killed, including 6 children. This is why the war must end.” Under Trump, the US has moved to improve relations with Russia, a shift from the approach of his predecessor, Joe Biden. Zelenskyy has made efforts to smooth over relations with Trump since the Oval Office altercation and has praised US efforts to work towards a settlement of the three-year-old war with Russia.
