Feds charge Virginia man with threatening VP Kamala Harris, other top elected officials

Virginian srrested for death threatsA Virginia man has been arrested and charged with threatening to kill Vice President Kamala Harris six days after she launched her presidential campaign authorities say.

Frank Lucio Carillo was charged in federal court in Virginia on Friday with “threats against the Vice President of the United States” after posting a series of lurid messages targeting Harris − and other elected officials including President Joe Biden and FBI Director Christopher Wray − on the conservative social media site GETTR, according to court records.

“Kamala Harris needs to be put on fire alive I will do it personally if no one else does (I) want her to suffer a slow agonizing death," one of the posts cited in an FBI affidavit filed in support of the charges said. The case was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia.

Judge denies Trump motion to dismiss DC case over selective prosecution

Trump plea to court denied again

A federal judge declined Saturday to toss out former President Trump’s federal election subversion case over his assertion that he’s being unfairly and singularly prosecuted.

In a 16-page order, U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan wrote that, at the outset of the trial process, the court must assume the allegations against Trump are truthful — and the “improper reframing of the allegations against him” he has presented so far cannot support dismissal.

“At this stage, the court cannot accept Defendant’s alternate narrative,” Chutkan wrote.

The case was put back in Chutkan’s hands just Friday, after a federal appeals court remanded the matter to the trial court shortly after the case was returned from the Supreme Court following its 6-3 decision last month granting former presidents at least presumptive immunity for official acts.

Key Black Muslim group backs Kamala Harris for president over Gaza stance

Black Muslims support Harris

Kamala Harris has won the backing for her presidential bid of a key US Muslim organization that had declined to endorse Joe Biden before he withdrew from his re-election campaign.

The switch to Harris was a sign that those who voted “uncommitted” instead of actively voting for Biden in the primary, because of their objections to his response to Israel’s war on Gaza, may have found an ally in his vice-president.

The group is the political action arm of the non-profit organization the Black Muslim Leadership Council, which was created in March to put pressure on the Biden administration to call for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

Salima Suswell, the founder and chief executive of the Black Muslim Leadership Council Fund, told NBC on Thursday: “[Harris] has shown more sympathy towards the people of Gaza then both President Biden and Former President Donald Trump.

Report reveals secret US inquiry into alleged 2016 Egyptian $10m gift to Trump

Fatah a-Sisi and Trump

A spokesperson for Donald Trump blamed “Deep State Trump-haters and bad faith actors” for a bombshell report on Friday about a secret criminal investigation into whether Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, the authoritarian ruler of Egypt, sought to give the former president $10m during his victorious 2016 White House run.

“The investigation referenced found no wrongdoing and was closed,” Steven Cheung told the Washington Post, which published the report on Friday.

“None of the allegations or insinuations being reported on have any basis in fact. The Washington Post is consistently played for suckers by Deep State Trump-haters and bad faith actors peddling hoaxes and shams.”

Key Trump ally in 2020 should lose law license for two years, DC disciplinary panel rules

Jefrey Clark loses law license for two years

Jeffrey Clark, the former Justice Department attorney who became a central figure in Donald Trump’s bid to seize a second term he didn’t win, should be suspended from practicing law for two years, a Washington, D.C., disciplinary panel ruled Thursday.

The oversight panel, authorized by the D.C. bar, rebuked Clark for aiding Trump’s effort to use the Justice Department’s might to undermine the results of the 2020 election. As part of that effort, Clark proposed a plan to persuade Republican-led legislatures to appoint pro-Trump presidential electors in states Joe Biden won. Clark’s role in the scheme violated his code of professional ethics as an attorney and even threatened to destabilize the country, the panel found.

Uncommitted movement demands DNC allow a representative to speak on Gaza

Uncommmitted delegates

The Uncommitted National Movement has announced a number of demands in the run-up to the Democratic national convention (DNC) later this month, part of an effort to use its voting power to influence Kamala Harris and the Democratic party’s stance on Israel’s war in Gaza.

In a press call on Thursday, movement leaders demanded that the DNC allow Dr Tanya Haj-Hassan, an American physician who’s worked in Gaza, to speak at the convention about the humanitarian crisis that she witnessed first-hand. They have also requested that an uncommitted delegate be given five minutes to speak at the convention, and for Kamala Harris to meet with movement leaders about their concerns.

Uncommitted leaders say that hearing from Haj-Hassan will help the Democratic party and Harris make informed policy decisions on Gaza, where more than 39,000 Palestinians have been killed since the 7 October attack on Israel by Hamas, according to health officials.

New York Appeals Court Rejects Trump's Gag Order Challenge Again

Judgw MarchanA New York appellate court on Thursday rejected an appeal from former President Donald Trump, who sought to lift the gag order imposed on him earlier this year in his New York criminal hush money trial.

The court’s decision means that a version of the gag order — as amended in June — remains in place for now.

The former president has been largely unsuccessful in fighting the order imposed by Judge Juan Merchan, who oversaw the historic trial that ended in a conviction for Trump on 34 counts of falsifying business documents. The case revolved around a hush money payment to porn actor Stormy Daniels made by Trump’s former personal attorney, Michael Cohen, allegedly at his direction.

Trump is barred from attacking prosecutors and court staff, and from revealing any identifying information about the jurors. The gag order never barred him from speaking about Merchan and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
