Trump Plans To Nullify New Federal Union Contracts

President Donald Trump said late Friday that he plans to nullify federal employee union contracts that agencies agreed to late in former President Joe Biden’s term.

In a memo to agency heads, Trump said that Biden officials had negotiated new collective bargaining agreements meant “to harm my Administration,” in part by undermining his return-to-office mandate, and that he intended to scrap them and bargain his own.

He referred specifically to a contract ratified with the Education Department days before he took office.

“Such last-minute, lame-duck CBAs, which purport to bind a new President to his predecessor’s policies, run counter to America’s system of democratic self-government,” he claimed.

Trump Fires The Director Of Consumer Financial Protection Bureau

President Donald Trump has fired the director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Rohit Chopra, in the latest purge of a Biden administration holdover.

Chopra was one of the more important regulators from the previous Democratic administration who was still on the job since Trump took office on Jan. 20. Chopra’s tenure saw the removal of medical debt from credit reports and limits on overdrafts penalties, all based on the premise that the financial system could be fairer and more competitive in ways that helped consumers. But many in the financial industry viewed his actions as regulatory overreach.

In a social media post Saturday about his departure, Chopra thanked people across the country who “shared their ideas and experiences” with the government’s consumer financial watchdog agency.

Ken Martin Is Elected Democratic National Committee Chair

Members of the Democratic National Committee elected Ken Martin as the central party body’s new chair on Saturday, picking a seasoned party operative to help lead the party back to power in Washington.

Martin, chair of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, defeated two other major contenders – Ben Wikler, chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, and former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley — and a host of more marginal candidates.

He received 246 votes to Wikler’s 144 and O’Malley’s 44.

The outcome was not a surprise: Martin was the frontrunner from the moment he jumped into the race.

In a press conference after the vote was certified, Martin said his message to President Donald Trump was: “We’re coming.”

Trump administration puts senior USAID officials on leave

Just after 6 p.m. EST on Monday, the Trump administration placed a number of senior career officials at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) on leave for allegedly not abiding by President Trump's executive order to freeze much of U.S. foreign aid.

NPR obtained a copy of a message sent to all USAID staff by acting administrator Jason Gray: "We have identified several actions within USAID that appear to be designed to circumvent the President's Executive Order and the mandate from the American people. As a result, we have placed a number of USAID employees on administrative leave with full pay and benefits until further notice while we complete our analysis of these actions."

Trump orders USDA to take down websites referencing climate crisis

USDA On Thursday, the Trump administration ordered the US agriculture department to unpublish its websites documenting or referencing the climate crisis.

By Friday, the landing pages on the United States Forest Service website for key resources, research and adaptation tools – including those that provide vital context and vulnerability assessments for wildfires – had gone dark, leaving behind an error message or just a single line: “You are not authorized to access this page.”

The government website was one of many that were affected on Friday by new directives from the Trump administration on what information federal agencies can publish.

Federal workers ordered to remove pronouns from sgnatures

Several federal government websites went dark while others were edited to remove mentions of gender on Friday evening as agencies scrambled to meet a deadline to scrub their websites, emails and contracts of “gender ideology”.

The office of personnel management also directed agencies to disband employee resource groups, terminate grants and contracts related to the issue and replace the term “gender” with “sex” on government forms.

By Friday evening, the Federal Aviation Administration and the Census Bureau websites went dark. Navigating to the websites turned up blank pages that said: “The page you’re looking for was not found.” Other agencies took down or altered specific websites. The Bureau of Prisons renamed a website titled “inmate gender” to “inmate sex” and no longer included a list of trans inmates.

Memo wants funds to go to high married and children count

The federal Department of Transportation has issued a memo ordering programs supported by the agency to prioritize funding projects for communities with “marriage and birth rates higher than the national average.”

The unusual four-page memo also directs thousands of employees to give special priority to projects and activities that improve transportation for “families with young children.” The directive applies to all Transportation Department-supported grants, loans and contracts, including existing agreements.
