Former ‘Meet the Press’ moderator Chuck Todd exits NBC News after nearly two decades

Chuck ToddFormer “Meet the Press” moderator Chuck Todd is leaving NBC News after nearly 18 years at the network.

Todd said in a memo to NBC News colleagues that Friday was his last day. He’ll continue doing his podcast and said he’s considering new projects, but offered no details.

He joined NBC News as political director in 2007 and was “Meet the Press” moderator from 2014 to 2023, before giving way to Kristen Welker. The role made him one of the more visible journalists in Washington and, as such, an occasional target of President Donald Trump and his supporters.

Arrest of Pro-Palestinian Journalist in Zurich Sparks Global Outcry

Ali Abunimsh arrestedOn Sunday, U.N. human rights experts and activists strongly condemned the arrest of American journalist Ali Abunimah in Zurich, Switzerland, citing grave concerns over freedom of speech. Abunimah, the executive director of Electronic Intifada, was arrested by Swiss police on Saturday prior to delivering a speech, as confirmed by the organization.

Swiss authorities later stated that the 53-year-old American was detained due to an entry ban and that additional legal actions under immigration laws were being considered. Irene Khan, U.N. Special Rapporteur on freedom of opinion and expression, expressed her dismay at the news, urging Switzerland to thoroughly investigate the case and release Abunimah.

The situation underlined a growing sense of unease over free speech in Europe, a sentiment echoed by Francesca Albanese, U.N. Special Rapporteur on human rights in the Occupied Territories. In response, the Swiss Action for Human Rights launched a petition demanding Abunimah's release, while the U.S. mission in Bern has yet to comment.

US orders halt to virtually all foreign aid except for Israel and Egypt

Memo syops all foreign aid except Israel and Egypt

The secretary of state, Marco Rubio, has ordered a halt to virtually all US foreign aid, but made an exception for funding to Israel and Egypt, according to an internal memo to staff at the US state department.

“No new funds shall be obligated for new awards or extensions of existing awards until each proposed new award or extension has been reviewed and approved … as consistent with President Trump’s agenda,” said the memo.

The sweeping order appears to affect everything from development assistance to military aid – including potentially to Ukraine, which received billions of dollars in weapons under Trump’s predecessor Joe Biden as it tries to repel a Russian invasion.

CBS Meteorologist Gone From Station After She Slammed Elon Musk's Salute

Sam Kuffel out at CBSA meteorologist with a CBS affiliate in Milwaukee has parted ways with the station days after she criticized Elon Musk’s controversial hand gesture at President Donald Trump’s inauguration as a Nazi salute.

A CBS 58 spokesperson confirmed with HuffPost on Wednesday that meteorologist Sam Kuffel is “no longer with the station” but that it “cannot comment further on personnel issues.” The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel was the first to report on Kuffel’s departure, noting that a memo about it went out to staff a day after she got heat from a conservative media personality for criticizing Musk’s shocking gesture.

“Sam Kuffel makes a pair of vulgar Instagram posts while spreading the lie that Elon Musk was giving a Nazi salute during yesterday’s Presidential Inauguration,” conservative radio host Dan O’Donnell shared Tuesday on X, the Musk-owned social media platform formerly called Twitter, alongside screenshots from what appear to be posts from Kuffel’s Instagram.

TVNL Comment: Sam Kuffel is gone from CBS, and CBS is now forever banned in my life. What sychophants and weak kneed cowards run this network.  Welcome back, Nazi salutes.

FCC reinstates complaints against ABC, CBS and NBC for 2024 election coverage

Brendan Carr

The Federal Communications Commission on Wednesday reinstated complaints about how ABC News moderated the pre-election TV debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, and appearances of Kamala Harris on CBS’s 60 Minutes and NBC’s Saturday Night Live.

Last week, then FCC chair Jessica Rosenworcel said the commission was rejecting complaints that “seek to weaponize the licensing authority of the FCC in a way that is fundamentally at odds with the First Amendment”. Then, on Wednesday, the FCC said in a series of orders the complaints had been dismissed “prematurely based on an insufficient investigatory record”.

The FCC, an independent federal agency, issues eight-year licenses to individual broadcast stations, not networks. The complaints name specific stations of the three broadcasters. NBC, Walt Disney-owned ABC and Paramount’s CBS did not immediately comment.

Tik Tok back for nowTikTok said Sunday it was restoring service to users in the United States just hours after the popular video-sharing platform went dark in response to a federal ban, which President-elect Donald Trump said he would try to pause by executive order on his first day in office.

Trump said he planned to issue the order to give TikTok’s China-based parent company more time to find an approved buyer before the ban takes full effect. He announced the move on his Truth Social account as millions of U.S. TikTok users awoke to discover they could no longer access the TikTok app or platform.
