'Godfather' actor James Caan dies at 82

James Caan, who portrayed Sonny Corleone in "The Godfather" and Paul Sheldon in "Misery," has died at 82.

The actor's official Twitter account shared the news on Thursday, writing in a statement he died Wednesday.

"The family appreciates the outpouring of love and heartfelt condolences and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time," the tweet read.

Born in the Bronx to German-Jewish immigrants, Caan collected many accolades across his acting career, spanning nearly five decades.

One of his most memorable roles was as the short-tempered Sonny Corleone, brother of Al Pacino's Michael Corleone, in Francis Ford Coppola's "The Godfather." He was nominated in best supporting actor categories at the 1972 Academy Awards and the Golden Globes that same year.

William Barr Says Trump Grew 'Detached From Reality' After Losing Election

Former President Donald Trump became “detached from reality” in the weeks after he lost the 2020 presidential election to Joe Biden, to the point where he refused to hear from even his closest advisers that there was no evidence of widespread voter fraud, according to his former U.S. attorney general, William Barr.

“There was never an indication of interest in what the actual facts were,” Barr said in new video testimony aired during Monday’s hearing of the Jan. 6 committee.

“My opinion then and my opinion now is that the election was not stolen by fraud,” he said. “And I haven’t seen anything since the election that changes my mind on that.”

Barr’s deposition to the committee was a central piece of Monday’s hearing, which was focused on proving that Trump and his advisers knew he had lost the election to Biden, but that, despite that, Trump “engaged in a massive effort to spread false and fraudulent information to convince huge portions of the U.S. population that fraud had stolen the election from him.”

Lawmakers investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection said Sunday they can provide evidence that Donald Trump tried to overthrow his election loss to Joe Biden even though he knew he had lost – a key legal point if he is prosecuted over actions that led directly to the violence at the U.S. Capitol.

Future hearings, including one on Monday, will demonstrate how a succession of advisers also told Trump that his claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election were bogus, Jan. 6 committee members said during a string of Sunday show appearances.

"I think any reasonable person in America will tell you, he had to have known he was spreading a 'Big Lie,'" said Rep, Jamie Raskin, D-Md., a member of the Jan. 6 select committee, speaking on CNN's "State of the Union."

Raskin added: "He continues to spread it to this very day."

Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo shared with then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows the questions she planned to ask Donald Trump ahead of her on-air interview with the president on Nov. 29, 2020, CNN reported on Friday.

Trump sycophant Bartiromo, in text messages obtained by the network, told Meadows she would request Trump, in his first post-election interview, to explain why the vote had been rigged against him. (For the record, it wasn’t.)

Around an hour before her talk with Trump, she messaged Meadows:

“Hi the public wants to know he will fight this. They want to hear a path to victory. & he’s in control. 1Q You’ve said MANY TIMES THIS ELECTION IS RIGGED… And the facts are on your side. Let’s start there. What are the facts? Characterize what took place here.”

Biden Bans Russian Oil - 'Another Powerful Blow to Putin's War Machine'.

The U.S. has banned imports of Russian oil, President Joe Biden announced Tuesday, in a major escalation of economic sanctions intended to punish Russian President Vladimir Putin for his war in Ukraine.

Oil had been omitted from earlier sanctions to shield consumers from higher fuel costs, but with gas prices surging anyway and Congress likely to force the issue, Biden made the surprise announcement at the White House on Tuesday.

“We’re banning all imports of Russian oil and gas and energy,” Biden said. “That means Russian oil will no longer be acceptable at U.S. ports and the American people will deal another powerful blow to Putin’s war machine.”

It’s a perilous economic moment for an oil supply shock, with overall price inflation already at the highest level since 1982 and the Federal Reserve poised to pump the brakes on the economy, potentially risking a recession.

Crisis Text Line is one of the world’s most prominent mental health support lines, a tech-driven nonprofit that uses big data and artificial intelligence to help people cope with traumas such as self-harm, emotional abuse and thoughts of suicide.

But the data the charity collects from its online text conversations with people in their darkest moments does not end there: The organization’s for-profit spinoff uses a sliced and repackaged version of that information to create and market customer service software.

Crisis Text Line says any data it shares with that company, Loris.ai, has been wholly “anonymized,” stripped of any details that could be used to identify people who contacted the helpline in distress. Both entities say their goal is to improve the world — in Loris’ case, by making “customer support more human, empathetic, and scalable.”

The woman — testifying under the pseudonym Jane — was the first of four alleged victims who will testify at Maxwell’s sex-trafficking trial in U.S. District Court in Manhattan. She gave a mostly matter-of-fact account of being lured into Epstein’s world of daily erotic massages as a 14-year-old and globe-trotting on private jets.

Maxwell, 59, who was Epstein’s longtime associate and paramour, has pleaded not guilty.
