Dozens killed in Israeli airstrike on school used as shelter in Gaza City

Dozens killed in airstrike

At least 28 people have been killed in an Israeli airstrike on a school turned shelter in the Jabaliya neighbourhood of Gaza City, amid accusations Israel intends to forcibly expel the remaining population in a renewed ground campaign.

The bombing of Abu Hussein school in Jabaliya on Thursday killed 28, including doctors and several children, and injured dozens more, according to health officials, who warned the final toll was likely to be higher. Another 11 people were killed in two separate airstrikes in Gaza City, and it was unclear how many were killed in other strikes in central and southern Gaza.

The attack on the Jabaliya school also caused a fire. “There is no water to extinguish the fire. There is no water to extinguish the fire. There is nothing. This is a massacre,” said medic Medhat Abbas.

“Civilians and children are being killed, burned under fire.”

The Israeli military said the strike targeted militants from Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad operating from within the school, claiming dozens of fighters were present when the strike took place. In a statement, Hamas denied any militants were using the school as a base.

CNN: Inside a secretive Ukrainian drone unit targeting Russian territory

Ukraine droneThe spluttering roar of a propeller punctuates the perfect silence. Car headlights flick on, splitting the darkness. Their beams reveal not just a section of tarmac ahead, but one of Ukraine’s most top-secret weapons, controlled by its most clandestine agency.

Stuck to the nose of the gray machine is a yellow emblem of an owl, wings spread and grasping a sword – the unmistakable logo of Ukraine’s defense intelligence, the GUR.

Two pilots sporting the same owl patches on their fatigues make their final checks inside the car before a thumbs up: “Let’s go!”

A high-speed, 50-second chase ensues, before the 13-foot long, 23-foot wingspan disappears in an instant into the inky-black Ukrainian night.

The drone’s destination is a target deep inside Russian territory.

Israeli strikes kill 27 in Lebanon, including in a town with a dark history of civilian deaths

Qana hit by Israel aftermemories of massacreIsraeli airstrikes pounded areas across Lebanon, killing at least 27 people over the past 24 hours, officials said Wednesday, including more than a dozen in a southern town where Israeli bombardments in previous conflicts are seared into local memory.

Elsewhere in the south, a city’s mayor was among the dead in a strike that Lebanese officials said targeted a meeting to coordinate relief efforts.

The Israeli military said they were targeting a Hezbollah commander in the strikes late Tuesday on the southern town of Qana, where 15 people were killed. Associated Press photos and video of the scene showed several flattened buildings and others with their top floors collapsed. Rescue workers carried away the remains of dead people and used a bulldozer to remove rubble, as they searched for more victims.

U.S. warns Israel it may restrict military aid if Gaza humanitarian situation doesn't improve

Matt MillerThe Biden administration has warned Israel that if the humanitarian situation in Gaza doesn't improve within the next 30 days, the U.S. may restrict military assistance to Israel.

In a letter Sunday to Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer, Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said that the U.S. must continually assess under its own law whether Israel is “directly or indirectly” impeding the transport of U.S. humanitarian assistance to Gaza. If it is, they warned that the U.S. could halt additional foreign military financing, according to two U.S. officials and a defense official.

State Department spokesperson Matt Miller confirmed the existence of the letter in a briefing Tuesday but would not comment on what consequences Israel would face if the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza does not improve.

TVNL Comment:  Has there not been enough slaughter committed with US funding?  Does Israel need another warning?  This is so ugly as has been every genocide in history. It has to end NOW, but it will not.

Ukraine war briefing: Authorities order evacuation of previously liberated Kupiansk

Ukraine war briefing
  • Ukrainian authorities have ordered the mandatory evacuation of Kupiansk city in the north-eastern Kharkiv region as Russian forces press closer and officials face difficulty providing services through the winter. Kupiansk fell to Russian forces in the weeks after their February 2022 invasion, but was retaken by Ukrainian troops later that year. The Kharkiv regional governor, Oleh Syniehubov, said: “On the east bank of the Oskil River, which divides the city, we can no longer guarantee the restoration of electricity, heat and water supply due to constant shelling. All repair crews immediately come under Russian fire.” The order also applied to the town of Borova, further south and near the city of Izium.

  • Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been invited to present his “victory plan” to defeat Russia at a meeting of EU leaders on Thursday. The European Council president, Charles Michel, announced he had invited the Ukrainian president “to take stock of the latest developments of Russia’s war against Ukraine and present his victory plan”. Military support to Kyiv and strengthening Ukraine’s heavily damaged energy grid are on the table as leaders from the EU’s 27 countries meet in Brussels.

U.S. condemns 'horrifying' Israeli attack that set Palestinian tent encampment ablaze

Palestinian camp ablazeThe Biden administration on Tuesday condemned Israeli airstrikes on a hospital compound in the Gaza Strip that ignited a nearby tent encampment where displaced Palestinians had sought refuge.

At least four Palestinians were killed and dozens of others, including children, were injured in the Monday night attack, which set tents ablaze and reportedly sent survivors fleeing from one tent to another. Videos appeared to show one man being burned alive.

“The images and video of what appear to be displaced civilians burning alive following an Israeli air strike are deeply disturbing and we have made our concerns clear to the Israeli government,” said Sean Savett, a spokesman for the National Security Council.

TVNL Comment: These people were set ablaze with American bombs. Oh my, that's so disturbing, isn't it? Let's keep supplying Israel with their genocide tools, and then say it's 'so disturbing.' Harris is handing the election to a madman.  That, too is disturbing.
