Former Israeli defense minister Yaalon warns of ethnic cleansing in Gaza

Former Israeli Defense Minister warns of ethnic cleansing in GazaA former Israeli defense minister has accused Israel of committing war crimes and ethnic cleansing in the Gaza Strip, drawing a sharp rebuke from government ranks.

Moshe Yaalon, a hawkish former general, told Israeli media that hardliners in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's far-right cabinet were looking to chase Palestinians from northern Gaza and wanted to re-establish Jewish settlements there.

"I am compelled to warn about what is happening there and is being concealed from us," Yaalon told Israel's public broadcaster Kan on Sunday. "At the end of the day, war crimes are being committed."

Yaalon is a former army chief of staff who served as defence minister under Netanyahu from 2013-16, and has been a fierce critic of the prime minister ever since.

Unrwa suspends aid deliveries through main Gaza route after convoy attacked

UNWRA trucks suspend deliveries after attack

The UN’s agency for Palestinian refugees has suspended aid deliveries through the main lifeline for the Gaza Strip after a fresh attack by armed gangs on a humanitarian convoy, amid a severe food crisis caused by more than a year of fighting between Israel and Hamas.

In a statement on Sunday, Philippe Lazzarini, the head of Unrwa, said several trucks carrying food supplies were looted the day before on the road from Kerem Shalom on the border with Israel, now the main aid crossing point into the besieged Palestinian territory. The route had not been safe for months, he said on X, referring to the unprecedented hijacking of nearly 100 aid trucks last month.

“This difficult decision comes at a time hunger is rapidly deepening … due to the ongoing siege, hurdles from Israeli authorities, political decisions to restrict the amounts of aid, lack of safety on aid routes and targeting of local police. All of the above led to a breakdown in law and order,” he said.

TVNL Comment:  Not a single looter has been arrested.  These are Israeli settlers who want to continue the genocide in Gaza.  Who re the true terrorists?

‘Disenfranchised and demobilized’: Native Americans face ballot box barriers in Arizona

Native Americans disenfranchised in Arizona

The calls started coming in to the Arizona Native vote election protection hotline around 6am on election day.

Voters in Apache county, where a sizable chunk of the population is Diné, also known as Navajo, were seeing problems at the polls. One location was locked and several others were having trouble printing ballots, according to an affidavit filed in state court. As the day went on, voters reported hours-long waits and observers reported that people were leaving. A local judge would eventually agree to extend voting in nine precincts in the county by two hours.

Inmates burn themselves in protest at ‘inhumane’ Virginia prison conditions

Inmates burn themselves in Va. prison

Several incarcerated people in Virginia’s high-security Red Onion state prison have intentionally burned themselves in a protest against harsh conditions at the facility.

A written statement from Virginia’s department of corrections acknowledged that men imprisoned there had harmed themselves, although the authorities confirmed six incidents while others reported that 12 men were injured.

“In recent months, six inmates at Red Onion state prison have burned themselves using improvised devices that were created by tampering with electrical outlets,” the director of Virginia’s department of corrections, Chad Dotson, said in a written statement.

Earlier this week, Virginia’s governor, Glenn Youngkin, also confirmed the protest and said there was an investigation into the injuries.

The ICC Arrest Warrant for Netanyahu Is Also an Indictment of US Policy and Complicity

Jeffrey D. Sachs

It’s official now. America’s closest ally, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the one accorded more than 50 standing ovations in Congress just months ago, is under indictment by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity and war crimes. America must take note: the U.S. Government is complicit in Netanyahu’s war crimes and has fully partnered in Netanyahu’s violent rampage across the Middle East.

For 30 years the Israel Lobby has induced the U.S. to fight wars on Israel’s behalf designed to prevent the emergence of a Palestinian State. Netanyahu, who first came to power in 1996, and has been prime minister for 17 years since then, has been the main cheerleader for U.S.-backed wars in the Middle East. The result has been a disaster for the U.S. and a bloody catastrophe not only for the Palestinian people but for the entire Middle East.

Protesters Block Macy's Thanksgiving Parade as Police Make Multiple Arrests

macy's parade protestersPro-Palestinian protesters blocked the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade route on Thursday, prompting the New York Police Department (NYPD) to arrest multiple people.

Video footage from the New York Post shows a group of people sitting in the street at W. 55th Street and Sixth Avenue in Manhattan while a few people behind them held a sign that read, "Don't Celebrate Genocide!" and "Free Palestine."

The footage then shows officers in NYPD uniforms dragging the protesters off the street and handcuffing them with what appears to be zip ties.

The protesters blocked the Ronald McDonald balloon for about five minutes, according to the Post. After they were detained by police, the parade continued with the balloon line leader telling the audience, "Ronald McDonald, everybody!" the Post reported.

Israel-Hezbollah Ceasefire Quiets One Front, But Gaza Sees No End To Misery

Palestinians displaced from their homesFor many across the Middle East, the Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire came as a relief: the first major sign of progress in the region since war began more than a year ago.

But for Palestinians in Gaza and families of hostages held in the territory, the news appeared only to inaugurate a newer, grimmer period of the conflict there. For them, it marked yet another missed opportunity to end fighting that has stretched on for nearly 14 months.

Palestinians had hoped that any ceasefire deal with Hezbollah would include a truce in Gaza as well. The families of people kidnapped when Hamas-led militants stormed southern Israel in October 2023, meanwhile, wanted part of the agreement to include returning their loved ones. Instead, the ceasefire was confined only to the fighting in Lebanon.

“We feel this is a missed opportunity to tie in the hostages in this agreement that was signed today,” said Ruby Chen, whose son, Itay Chen, was taken hostage from an Israeli military base and has been declared dead.
