Apprentice producer gets special envoy to UK post

Donald Trump has appointed Mark Burnett, a British television producer who helped produce Trump’s show The Apprentice, as the US’s special envoy to the UK.

In an announcement on Truth Social on Saturday, Trump hailed 64-year-old Burnett, saying: “With a distinguished career in television production and business, Mark brings a unique blend of diplomatic acumen and international recognition to this important role.”

Trump went on to cite multiple shows that Burnett had created and produced including Survivor, Shark Tank, The Voice and, most notably, The Apprentice, which ran from 2004 to 2017 and featured Trump as its host.

As the former chair of MGM Worldwide Television Group, Burnett has won 13 Emmys.

TVNL Comment:  Hell, who needs diplomatic or foreign policy credentials for this job? This administration will be a circus of inexperienced fools.

The role of the Gaza genocide in Kamala Harris’s loss

Kamala HarrisWhy did Kamala Harris lose the 2024 presidential election?

There is no shortage of answers to this question, most of them self-affirming and offered up to serve whatever agenda the pundit in question is trying to advance. That is certainly what you’re seeing now on CNN and MSNBC.

Voters who want something better in future elections than the awful choice we had this year must try to be more honest. But that honesty should not be false modesty either. We need to accurately assess our strength and power, not overstate nor understate it.

The question of the United States’ Middle East policy is not a simple one. There can be no doubt that Mideast policy, especially regarding the genocide in Gaza, played a profound role in this campaign. But can we say that Harris lost this race because of Gaza?

Man who hit police with poles gets 20 yearsA California man with a history of political violence was sentenced on Friday to 20 years in prison for repeatedly attacking police with flagpoles and other makeshift weapons during the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.

David Nicholas Dempsey’s sentence is among the longest among hundreds of Capitol riot prosecutions. Prosecutors described him as one of the most violent members of the mob of Donald Trump supporters that attacked the Capitol as lawmakers met to certify Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential election victory.

Dempsey, who is from Van Nuys, stomped on police officers’ heads. He swung poles at officers defending a tunnel, struck an officer in the head with a metal crutch and attacked police with pepper spray and broken pieces of furniture, prosecutors said.

He climbed atop other rioters, using them like “human scaffolding” to reach officers guarding a tunnel entrance. He injured at least two police officers, prosecutors said.

Cohen also gained possible access to an additional $529,000 through a mortgage he co-signed with his wife for a condominium owned by her parents at Trump World Tower in late 2015, the Journal reported.

Sessions mulls firing McCabe before retirement

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is reportedly considering firing former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, just days before the bureau’s second-highest ranking official is set to retire.

Mr. McCabe is the focus of an internal Justice Department probe on the FBI’s investigative decisions during the 2016 presidential campaign, including the probe of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server. The Justice inspector general concluded that Mr. McCabe was not forthcoming during the review, reported The New York Times, which first broke the story.
