uk prime ministerDuring a news conference with President Trump, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Thursday that his country is ready to put "boots on the ground" to support a peace deal in Ukraine as Starmer said they had a "very good and productive visit."

Achieving lasting peace in Ukraine and ending Russia's full-scale invasion was top of the agenda for Starmer and Mr. Trump in Starmer's first visit to the White House since Mr. Trump took office, as Mr. Trump said Thursday that he trusts Russian President Vladimir Putin to keep his word on any peace agreement they reach.

"We discussed a plan today to reach a peace that is tough and fair, that Ukraine will help shape, that's backed by strength, to stop Putin coming back for more," Starmer said. "I'm working closely with other European leaders on this, and I'm clear that the U.K. is ready to put boots on the ground and planes in the air to support a deal, working together with our allies, because that is the only way that peace will last."
