An eleventh grader in Texas was thrown in jail - just for missing school.

However, honour student Diane Tran, 17, is no lazy truant. In fact, she's quite the opposite.

Since her parents divorced and left her and her two siblings, she has been the sole breadwinner and works two jobs to keep the family afloat.

Ms Tran says that her parents divorced 'out of the blue,' leaving her and her two siblings to fend for themselves.

Judge Lanny MoriartyHarsh: Judge Lanny Moriarty also ordered Tran to pay a $100 fine but others are asking that he shows leniency on the school girl.

According to Texas state law, students who are absent from school without parental consent for three days in a four-week period or ten or more days in a six-month period are subject to prosecution.

TVNL Comment: So this is the freedom we hear so much about? Is this freedom that our troops somehow protect by murdering people on the other side of the planet? This is the kind of situation where a healthy society would purge itself, completely, permanently, and with extreme prejudice, of everyone who executed the arrest and carried out the penalty, including those who initiated the process. This girl should have received recognition for her efforts and given assistance by our government. We have a government to protect us, not to blindly and idiotically enforce the technical minutia of the law. This is the kind of situation that screams out for revolution.
