Lawmakers in Many States Pushing for Abortion Curbs

Lawmakers in Many States Pushing for Abortion CurbsNewly energized by their success in November’s midterm elections, conservative legislators in dozens of states are mounting aggressive campaigns to limit abortions. The lawmakers are drafting, and some have already introduced, bills that would ban most abortions at 20 weeks after conception, push women considering abortions to view a live ultrasound of the fetus, or curb insurance coverage, among other proposals.

In Florida and Kansas, legislators plan to reintroduce measures that were vetoed by previous governors but have the support of the new chief executives, like ultrasound requirements and more stringent regulation of late-term abortions.

Patriot Act, a Nazi law: Ex-CIA official

“The Patriot Act was similar to legislation carried out by the Nazis because essentially it was using terrorism in both cases as an excuse to strip civil liberties that were enjoyed in both countries; in the United States and Germany,” Phillip Giraldi said in an interview with Press TV.

“Governments have been willing to use fear, such as fear of terrorism, and fear of the enemy, as a way to get the people lined up in support of government policies. Very often these policies are essentially bad for the people because they take away many of their rights,” the former CIA officer said.

College Education?: Shocking New Research Proves That Our College Students Are Learning Next To Nothing

Have you ever wondered what all those college students are actually learning?  Well, according to one shocking new study, they are apparently not learning much at all.  According to very extensive research detailed in a new book entitled "Academically Adrift: Limited Learning on College Campuses", 45 percent of U.S. college students exhibit "no significant gains in learning" after two years in college.  For many Americans, a statistic like that comes as a complete shock, but for anyone that has spent much time in or around U.S. colleges lately this should not come as much of a surprise.  This new research also found that today's students spend approximately 50% less time studying than U.S. college students did just a few decades ago.  What this research shows is what many of us have known for a long time - that the quality of college education in the United States today is a complete and total joke.

Study: Many college students not learning to think critically

An unprecedented study that followed several thousand undergraduates through four years of college found that large numbers didn't learn the critical thinking, complex reasoning and written communication skills that are widely assumed to be at the core of a college education.

Many of the students graduated without knowing how to sift fact from opinion, make a clear written argument or objectively review conflicting reports of a situation or event, according to New York University sociologist Richard Arum, lead author of the study. The students, for example, couldn't determine the cause of an increase in neighborhood crime or how best to respond without being swayed by emotional testimony and political spin.

In America, violence and guns forever

In America, violence and guns foreverAnother American mass shooting. Another rush to buy more guns. On the Monday after the latest of the bloody rampages that are part of American life, gun sales in Arizona shot up by more than 60 percent and rose by an average of five percent across the entire country.

The figures come from the FBI and speak volumes about a gun culture that has long baffled much of the world. The Federal Bureau of Investigation compared January 10, 2011, with the corresponding Monday a year ago.

Feeding the homeless? Better have a permit

A local couple who spent more than a year trying to help feed the homeless has been ordered to stop because they didn't have a permit.

The city says it's not trying to be the bad guy, and they understand the good the couple is trying to do, but it says it's just trying to protect the homeless -- the same people the couple has been trying to help.

Houston has close to 10,000 homeless people. One in five lives on the streets.
